The Little Big Man

Watch out for The Little Big Man by Rabindranath Tagore, with Art by Rajiv Eipe!

The Little Big Man shows what it’s like for a child to wear his father’s shoes, to grow up and assume adult responsibilities.

Tagore’s magic exercised one more time, with this one. Through the eyes of a child, a poetic ideal!

The little big man is a little child who craves the freedom that comes along with growing up.

Rabindranath Tagore skillfully tells it the way it is, in a swinging verse through a child’s lens.

We find that like all young boys, the little big man looks forward to growing up and being like his father. And he is thrilled about how nobody will stop him from doing what he wishes to do once this happens!

The flow of this entertaining narrative combined with lively illustrations make this book a very enjoyable read!

The Glass Tree

The Glass Tree, by M Mukundan, with Art by Poonam Athalye is the next new title you should look out for on your visit to the Katha StoryShop!

Unni has lots and lots of stories to tell. And his grandmother cannot go to sleep without one of Unni’s colourful tales.

A delightful retelling of the original prize-winning Malayalam story, just for your little storyteller!

Complete with lovely illustrations and descriptive accounts, this book promises to transfer one to the fascinating world of Kuruman, a Chief who prays in front of the very old champaka tree. And of Melkorren who takes to building a new tree for Kuruman... one that will never die... The Glass Tree.
This ‘Unnikatha’ is full of vivid imagination. Pleasant and amusing!

Clouds and Waves by Rabindranath Tagore

The verse is the poet’s tribute to a child’s imagination. The little child is talking to her mother and tells her that the folks who live up in the clouds call her and say, it’s so much fun out there, they play the whole day and the golden dawn and the silver moon are their chums. And when the little girl asks them how she can get to them, they tell her to come to the edge of the earth, lift up her hands to the sky, and she will be taken up into the clouds. Though greatly tempted, she resists and tells them that her mother is waiting for her at home and she can’t leave her mother and go.
But she has a better game, yet another fragment of the little girl’s imagination. She tells her mother that she will become the cloud and her mother will be the moon. Then she will cover her mother with both her hands and the huge sky will be their roof-top.
There is a dream-like imagery that permeates throughout the poem.

"An endearing poem of a child who refuses tempting invitations, instead staying with her mother at playtime, blissful in her company.
Wordwoven with great tenderness by the greatest poet of all times, a gentle verse for all the little ones and their mothers!"

Razia and her Pink Elephant!

So yet another wondrous delight is all set to hit the racks at the Katha StoryShop!
Get ready to weave through a magical world of elephants, pigeons and more in "Razia and her Pink Elephant" by Mukul Dube, with art by Fahad Faizal :)

"Meet SARASVATI, Razia's pink baby elephant, who was born in Kerala and now lives in Delhi.
Meet Sarasvati's uncle SHER SINGH, the Master Mistri Elephant and former Carrot Taster, who's been in Myanmar and Australia and South America.

Meet NATASHA, the world's fastest Courier Pigeon, who leads the fly-past on Republic Day and draws maps for all the world's airlines."

Let's pique our curiosity some more with the fun facts given below - Hint: They're all somehow related to the book.
But how dynamic a world can lay contained in those brightly coloured, magnificently illustrated pages? Read on!

Did you Know?

1. In the 12th C A.D., the city of Baghdad and all the main towns and cities in Syria and Egypt were linked by messages carried by pigeons. This was the sole source of communication!

2. Elephant is the only mammal that cannot jump!

3. Llama, though confused with sheep, is a relative of the Camels!

4. Penguins use sign language to communicate with each other. They also call, blow and preen!

5. Living most of their lives at sea, resting on the waves when not swimming, Puffins are surprisingly fleet flyers. By flapping their wings upto 400 times per minute, they can reach speeds of 88 kms an hour!

Now how all these facts connect to the story of Razia is something we can't disclose just yet, but be sure to uncover the mystery for yourself... Coming soon!
